Dr. Rene' Varela is a Florida native, born in Miami Beach. He received his bachelor's degree in biology and a master's degree in biology, studying immunology from Florida Atlantic University.
His veterinary degree is from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine. Post graduate training included two fellowships at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution Division of Marine Mammal Research & Conservation.
He has also performed doctoral degree training in comparative immunology and is currently completing a Masters degree in Public Health at Florida International University. His work and presentations have taken him literally around the globe.
While he enjoys his work with marine mammals, Dr. Varela is really drawn toward working with pet animals and their human owners.
Dr. Varela is married to a fellow veterinarian and has an extended pet family of three dogs, two cats and eight fish. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Florida Veterinary Medical Association, Palm Beach Veterinary Society amongst other professional groups.
His professional interests include internal medicine, immunology/allergy, wildlife & exotic animal medicine.
