Diet for Rheumatoid Arthritis

You can take a book like this, a text book of internal medicine and look up any disease. When you look at the therapy for that disease, you'll find that it starts with a diet. Now, many times the diets are obvious, for example, if you have diabetes mellitus or heart disease, but diet's important.
But there are other diseases where the diet is much more insidious, in terms of can it be treated that way. For example, rheumatoid arthritis. There is a diet that works, let me tell you what it is.

Here is the disease rheumatoid arthritis, and believe it or not a diet can affect it, can improve it, and it's the Mediterranean diet. That's why Patrick is dressed this way, like a typical farmer guy. It's believed that the garlic and the oils in the diet is what helps the arthritis. It was just reported in the Annals of Rheumatoid Arthritis and it showed that the arthritis improved dramatically - they're function was better and their quality of life was better - and also, on the diet they lost about 6 pounds.

So when it comes to rheumatoid arthritis, just like diabetes mellitus and heart disease, the diet is the first thing you need to do and it has to be the Mediterranean diet. If you don't know what it is, go look it up and do it, or better yet, go to Italy.

And I'm Dr David Vastola, and that's life.
