DELRAY BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A Delray Beach father and his 8-year-old daughter die in a fiery car crash in Macon, Georgia.
Bill Sneed had recently made the decision to move his family out of South Florida after the faltering economy took its toll on his contracting business. He closed his business and sold the family home.
"To have something happen like this is just tragic. It just shows you how fragile life is and how you have to respect every moment of it," said Todd Bush.
Bush and his wife Kelly live across the street from Sneed's old house. They watched them drive off Saturday. The family's two sons were riding in another car with an uncle. Dawn, the mother had stayed behind and was planning on catching up with the rest of the family later.
But no one could have imagined that a fiery car accident would kill Bill and Hope. They were driving together, towing a U-haul when their car veered off the road and crashed into the median.
"You hear news like that, you just can't believe. It just shocks you," said Mitchell Dillon. He is the pastor at the family's church and says Bill was one of the first to offer help and his contracting expertise to anyone who needed it. He says Hope was a little girl with a very sweet spirit. As for the rest of family, they were just as giving. Now, they are dealing with the tragic loss of family members and the prospect of starting over with out the foundation of a home or father.
The community and the family church are coming together to help, and their pastor says more help is needed. "This is a family who spent a lot of time giving to others, so, I think, maybe this is an opportunity to turn it around a little bit," Dillon said.
