PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (WFLX) - Dozens of emaciated cats found living in filth are now at the Humane Society of St. Lucie County.

Investigators found 49 cats and two dogs inside a home in the 600 block of Northeast Helicon Lane of a man who brought a very sick cat to a local veterinarian. The cat later died and veterinarian became suspicious.

One cat had an eye missing, many were emaciated, all of them had ear mites, and some shows signs of an infectious disease. Six cats had to be euthanized.
