South Park creators targets of death treats

Posted by Rachel Leigh - email

NEW YORK (WFLX) - It's one of the most watched animated shows on TV, but the creators of South Park are the targets of death threats. A radical Muslim Web site based in America is issuing a disturbing warning.

On last week's episode, the Muslim prophet Muhammad was shown wearing a bear costume. It was done to riff on the fact that Islam prohibits any actual depiction of the image of Muhammad. Some in the Muslim community didn't find it funny.

The New York-based Web site RevolutionMuslim.com made a threat against the show's creators saying, "We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing is stupid, and they will probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh for airing this show."

Van Gogh is the Dutch filmmaker who was murdered back in 2004 after making a documentary on violence against Muslim women.

No comment from Matt, Trey or Comedy Central.

In the past, South Park has taken satirical shots at all sorts of religious figures.
