Charge in hit and run fatality not enough for family

JUPITER, FL (WFLX) - The family of 21-year-old Kathryn Veroxie says the 15-year-old boy who, authorities say, was behind the wheel of a stolen car was charged with stealing the vehicle; however, he has yet to be charged with vehicular homicide.

Veroxie was hit while walking near the intersection of Garden Road and Blue Heron Boulevard in Riviera Beach March 19.

The alleged driver of the vehicle left the scene, but police stopped the 15-year-old suspect a short distance away. He was later released.

Over a month later, the teen suspect, who we are not identifying because he's a minor, has been charged with stealing the vehicle.

Veroxie's aunt and uncle, who live in Jupiter and raised her since she was 14, wish authorities would hand down what, they say, is the appropriate charge of vehicular homicide.

"We are at the point now that our hands are tied. We don't know what to do to get through the grief because everything is on hold," said Marian Zebedee, Veroxie's aunt.

The Zebedees say Riviera Beach Police and the State Attorney's Office are working on the homicide charge but there is no telling when that will happen.

A celebration of Kathryn Veroxie's live will be held this Saturday at 1 p.m. at Jupiter's Carlin Park.

Her family is grateful for all the help and prayers they've gotten from their congregation Christ Fellowship in Palm Beach Gardens.
