DELRAY BEACH, FL (WFLX) - An investigation is underway after two pregnant sharks are found dead in South Florida.
A 13-foot long female Great Hammerhead Shark was found in Delray Beach with fishing line and a hook in its mouth. The mother shark had 35 pups in its belly. They couldn't be saved. "We were hoping to see if we could save the pups, so I brought a knife, and we had some people hold the shark because it was right at the edge, so it was rolling in the surf a little bit," said one of the rescuers.
There was also a pregnant Bull Shark found in the Florida Keys on the same day. None of the shark pups could be saved.
Law enforcement says there is not much they can do because these particular sharks aren't protected by law.
