S. FL's "Old Man Bandit" admits to crimes

MIAMI SPRINGS, FL (WFLX) - Known at the time of the robberies as the "Old Man Bandit" Steven Gass, 55, of Miami Springs pled guilty on Friday to six counts of bank robbery.

Between April 17, 2008 and February 16, 2010 Gass was responisble for 21 bank robberies totaling roughly $136,750 in stolen cash. His sentencing is set for July 23 in Fort Lauderdale. Gass faces a maximum of 20 years in prison for each individual count.

He has robbed several banks in Deerfield, Delray, Coral Gables, Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Ratonn, Pinecrest, Boynton Beach, Greenacres, Naples and Miami.

In each robbery, Gass would enter the bank and hand a note to the tellers which said he was armed, demanded cash and would shoot the tellers if they did not turn over cash. He would then leave the banks with cash in hand.
