Free buzz cuts for oil ravaged Gulf Coast

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) – Government scientists say an outer edge of the massive Gulf of Mexico oil has reached a powerful current that could take it to Florida and beyond.

It's believed the blown out well is actually spewing more than 2 million gallons a day -- not the official estimate of 200,000 gallons.

BP hopes to start its latest effort to plug the leak Sunday.

In the meantime, Anushka Spa & Salon in CityPlace is offering free summer buzz cuts to Palm Beach-area children. They will then donate the hair to Matter of Trust, an organization which makes oil absorbing boom.

"For this to be the success that we know it can be, we need the support of the schools, the parents and student leaders," said Anushka Blau, founder and co-owner of the famed salon and spa.

Anushka is calling on all teachers, student leaders and parents to become "Buzz Cut Bandleaders". The school or organization that rounds up the most "Buzz Cut Buddies", 50 or more, will receive a $500 Anushka Gift Card for use at a future fundraising event.
