WELLINGTON, FL (WFLX) - Shooting a can of silly string at Elvis while playing with his new pal Vanilla Ice is a dream come true for 8-year-old Thomas Massimino. A child who has been through so much, including four major surgeries, after being born with a genetic heart defect.

"Thomas was born with a condition, born with half a heart," Anthony Massimino explained. "Thomas has had a series of surgeries. His first one being at 5 days old."

He got a heart transplant on Valentine's Day and the Make-A-Wish Foundation decided to help lift up his spirits.

First, Thomas got to meet heavy metal band Kiss, and now famed rapper and Wellington resident Rob Van Winkle a.k.a. Vanilla Ice who took him around his neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

Van Winkle said of Thomas, "You can see the kid is doing great now. It's been hard for a lot of people involved in this."

Van Winkle, with camera crews in tow, showed the boy a house he's remodeling as part of his upcoming D-I-Y network show "The Vanilla Ice project."

Thomas is a man of few words, but if his huge smile Wednesday is any indication, he was having the time of his life along with his new and famous best friend.

"It's not about me. It's about him. I'm happy just being the puppet to make this happen for this kid," Van Winkle told us.
