RIVIERA BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Calvin Williams was shot to death at his home on Silver Beach Road on May 14.
In court Wednesday, the alleged murderer claims it was self defense and that he was trying to avoid being raped.
Twenty-year-old Lawrence Hunt told Riviera Beach police investigators he had an ongoing sexual relationship with Williams for two years.
But their relationship went terribly wrong on the morning of May 14 when, Hunt says, he confronted Williams about rumors he had HIV.
Hunt claims the LC Swain Middle school special education teacher then tried to rape him.
According to a Riviera Beach police affidavit: "Williams then allegedly climbed onto his back and began to pull (Hunt's) basketball shorts off, while stating 'I'm (going to) get that a--."
Shortly after, cops say, Hunt shot Williams to death.
The victim's family knew the suspect -- playing basketball with him and running into him in the neighborhood.
They can't believe he would do this, but feel compassion towards him. "I feel sorry for his family, but he took away someone very dear to us. We all loved Calvin very much," said uncle Ron Raney.
"Like my brother said, our hearts reach out to their families, just like ours. But we know justice will be served," said uncle Nat McNeill.
Hunt remains behind bars on no bond facing second degree murder charges.
