JUNO BEACH, FL (WFLX) - We've learned new details about a Juno Beach boat crash that left two members of Palm Beach County law enforcement injured.
The sheriff's office says she's been with the force for three years, and this woman is a proven hero on the job.
Cheryl Griffin is at St. Mary's Hospital in critical condition Sunday night. The sheriff's office says that she was part of a high profile rescue attempt a few years ago where she dove into water trying to save someone drowning.
The FWC says Griffin and another woman were in a boat that rammed into a dock Saturday just north of the Donald Ross Bridge near Juno Beach. The name of the other victim is Melissa Burdeen. She's a reserve officer for the city of Plantation in Broward County. She only had minor injuries.
The crash was so loud, the neighbors heard it in a nearby waterfront community. "A boat doesn't just run into a dock. I've never seen that before. When the ambulance pulled up, it was scary because I've never seen that in real life before," said a witness.
The FWC is investigating this crash and looking into whether alcohol was involved.
For now, we know very little about what was going on before the accident.
