JUPITER, FL (WFLX) - Palm Beach County is confirming a case of Eastern Equine Encephalitis. A horse from the Jupiter area had to be euthanized last week.
So far, no sentinel chickens in Palm Beach County have tested positive for the virus. But, several test chickens in Stuart have tested positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, Florida Agriculture Commissioner Charles H. Bronson is urging horse owners to get their animals vaccinated. On rare occasions, the virus can be transferred to people, making them sick as well.
The best advice is to wear mosquito repellant with deet, get rid of standing water and don't go outdoors between dawn and dusk.
