Delray pharmacies place limit on pills

Posted by Elizabeth Stewart - email

DELRAY BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Pharmacies in Delray Beach could soon be limited on how much potent narcotics they'll be able to fill for patients. It's part of the crackdown on pain clinics.

City commissioners are working to pass a law that would prohibit pharmacies from selling more than 10 percent of their total sales in controlled substances. That's drugs like OxyContin, Roxicet and Percocet.

"It is definitely not designed to penalize the mom and pop pharmacies, however it is designed to put clamps on the back room pharmacies we see coming up in the city."

Commissioners unanimously passed the proposed law 5-0. It needs to pass a second round to become law.

That vote will happen July 28th.
