The official announcement came this week. The Belle Glade facility, also known as the STAR program, had been on the chopping block. It was spared last year. This week, the Sheriff's Office issued a memo announcing the drug farm is closing at the end of September and as of now not accepting any new defendants. Roger Rogers went through the drug farm in 1994 and has been sober ever since. He now owns his own business. He said, "Saved my life and saved many others...That's your opportunity to turn around. And they're going to show you the way to do it." Rogers says the drug farm saves taxpayers money in the long run.He and other alumni vow to keep fighting to save the program.
