Tiny plastic foam boat carries Cuban migrant to US

MIAMI- A Cuban migrant trying to reaching the U.S. spent 25 days at sea in a tiny, plastic foam boat.

The makeshift boat was spotted about 50 miles south of Marathon in the Florida Keys by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection aircraft patrolling the Florida Straits.

A U.S. Coast Guard vessel picked up the castaway. Authorities said Tuesday they found the man severely dehydrated after so many days at sea. He told officials he had left Havana on June 20.

No further details were immediately available.

Most Cubans who reach U.S. soil are allowed to stay, while those intercepted at sea are generally sent home.
