Big Tobacco Suit

WEST PALM BEACH---A local family takes on Big Tobacco in a Palm Beach County courtroom.
Jurors started hearing the case today.

They'll have to decide if tobacco giants, R-J Reynolds and Phillip Morris, should be liable for the lung cancer death of an Acreage man.

Charles Piendle began smoking in his teens. He finally kicked his habit in his 40's.
But 6 years later he was diagnosed with lung cancer and died.

Today during opening statements Piendle wiped away tears.
Liz Piendle said, "He was a great guy, and I still miss him today."

The companies' lawyers insist they're not responsible for Piendle's death that he smoked in spite of the warnings.

The trial is expected to continue for several weeks.
