Multi-million dollar yacht missing

NORTH PALM BEACH(WFLX)---Police in North Palm Beach are investigating the possible theft of a multi-million dollar yacht.

The 65-foot yacht is a Viking sportfisherman and was built in 2003.

Police say it's valued at $2.5 million. It has a yellow hull with a white deck.

Police say it was taken from the North Palm Beach Marina sometime Wednesday morning, and it was reported missing by the yacht's captain who went to the marina about 10 Wednesday morning and found it was gone.

Captain Bill Jones said, "It's being actively searched for and hopefully we'll find it. Who would want to do it? It doesn't happen a lot around here you know, but it did happen."

Police chief Rob O'Neil said, "We have some witness information that at least 2 individuals were observed doing a pre-seaworthy preparation and got the boat underway sometime yesterday morning."

The police chief says there's a chance the people who took the yacht might have a legitimate right to be on it, such as a relative or someone hired by another family member to take it out.

But for now, until police can determine otherwise, they are treating this as if it were in fact stolen. The Coast Guard is also investigating.
