Stolen yacht found, many questions unanswered

NORTH PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A two and a half million dollar mystery is solved. Thursday night, a stolen yacht from our area was found far from where it's supposed to be.

There are still a lot of unanswered questions, but one thing is for sure. Other boat owners are taking notice of just how easy this heist was pulled off. "It surprised me and at the same time it made me think, you know, that could happen to my boat."

Boat owners are now on edge after a pricey yacht from the North Palm Beach Marina was stolen Wednesday morning quietly and easily. We have some witness information that at least two individuals were observed doing a pre-seaworthy preparation and got the boat underway sometime Wednesday morning.

But the 65 foot Viking Sportfisherman was just found on it's way to the Bahamas. It's now docked at Sampson Cay, southwest of Nassau. The boat's captain still does not know who took the boat but he stated "Whoever took it had to know what they were doing I think, because that's not just a boat you can get in and drive away. It's fairly sophisticated. You have to understand how things start in order to be able to safely run it."

It's still unclear how the boat and the thieves were caught, but we do know a plane confirmed it was the missing boat before officials moved in. We do not know if anyone was arrested but we do know the captain of the boat is flying to Samson Key to bring it back home where it belongs.

We don't know for certain why this yacht was picked to be stolen but it may have something to do with the owner passing away last week and his wife doesn't live in the area.
