(WFLX) - People on the streets say it's about time for a change. "Pay them equally for the work they do."
Women in the workplace are not payed equally. They make on average only 75 percent of what men make. That's why President Obama is urging congress to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act, which he calls a common sense bill to ensure that women get paid as well as men for equal work.
"Employers should get penalized when appropriate" says Attorney James Green who is with the ACLU of Palm Beach County. He says the act would allow female workers to demand employers justify any disparity in pay in the workplace. "The employer couldn't retaliate and if the issue went to court, women could seek damages easier than in the past."
The bill passed the house last year, and now the President will try to convince the Senate to do the same. Fox 29 will keep you posted.
