Researchers link Twitter with moods

Posted by Elizabeth Stewart - email

(WFLX) - A group of researchers from Northeastern University and Harvard set out to measure America's mood, so they turned to Twitter.

They analyzed more than 300 million tweets and they looked for key words that described someone's mood. Some of the results were obvious. People are happier on the weekends, with the peak happiness on Sunday mornings.

But researchers also came up with geographic results. Green is happy. Red is angry. People on the West Coast seem happier than those on the East Coast.

But when looking at Florida, we're pretty much green or happy the entire time.

The unhappiest moments are on Thursday evenings, before the last day of the workweek begins.
