Missing child found too late

(WFLX) - Tuesday afternoon, the Alexander's took their trash to the side of the road. Inside the house, their little 6-year-old, Willie James Alexander Junior. "He was inside the home when they went outside. When they came back, he was gone," said one man.

At 4 o'clock his parents couldn't find their son. They looked for 16 minutes, then called Okeechobee County Sheriffs Deputies for help. The community searched. Then just after 5:30, a dive team found him in 12 feet of water in a backyard pond.

Friends of the family gathered at the home in Pine Glades Estates. They can't believe the news. "I am shocked that he even got out of the house," said one neighbor. Church friends say Willie was autistic and his mother kept a close eye on him. "He was always well kept in the house."

They say the family was happy, and the little boy was always smiling. "Willie was a real friendly and happy guy," said another neighbor.

Willie was rushed to Raulerson Hospital where he died. Now, a death investigation is in full swing. His parents are being questioned. Deputies say they don't suspect foul play, but that it appears to be a tragic accident.
