WEST PALM BEACH(AP)--- A Florida teen accused of brutally beating another teen will have to stay in jail until trial.
An appeals court in West Palm Beach has denied a bail hearing for 15-year-old Wayne Treacy. His lawyers said Wednesday they were disappointed their request was rejected without an explanation.
They plan to file another appeal and the court to hear arguments and offer a written opinion.
Treacy is charged with attempted first-degree murder for the attack on 15-year-old Josie Lou Ratley in March. Treacy has pleaded not guilty.
His lawyers argued that because of his age, Treacy is not subject to the life-without parole maximum sentence if he's convicted. Prosecutors argued that state law denying bail is more concerned with the severity of the charge, not Treacy's age.
