37-year-old jumps from boat, dies

A man who jumped from a boat at John Prince Park and died was identified today as Walter Myers, 37, of West Palm Beach.

Palm Beach County firefighters dove into murky water in an effort to find him, but pulled his lifeless body from the bottom of the lake around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

He had been in the water for about 30 minutes.

Investigators say he and a friend were on a maroon fishing boat when Myers jumped off.
He was in the water for less than a minute before he went under and did not resurface.

His friend jumped in to try to save him and investigators say he was so exhausted from searching he had to go to the hospital. That friend is expected to survive.

We've learned that the sheriff's office is looking into whether the boat they were on is stolen. Deputies say they ran the tags and the names didn't match up with the victims.
We're also told the men didn't have lifejackets.
