GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WFLX) - A dog saves his owner's life by biting off his big toe.
Jerry Douthett of Grand Rapids, Michigan went out last weekend and had one too many. He then came home and passed out in his bed.
When he woke up, he saw his Jack Russell Terrier sitting in a pool of blood. Turns out, the dog had bitten off the man's big toe.
He went to the doctor, and he was told that untreated Type 2 Diabetes had caused an infection in his toe, and that the dog had actually saved him.
Douthett says his dog knew something was wrong. "He didn't go any more flesh than needed to go. It pretty much got rid of the infection what he took off."
Douthett says from now on, he'll pay closer attention to this health.
