DELRAY BEACH, FL (WFLX) - The family of Haile Brockington has set up a fund to help with funeral expenses. The 2-year-old girl died Thursday after she was left in a Delray Beach daycare van for at least six hours.

Investigators are still looking into what went wrong at Katie's Kids Learning Center. A medical examiner ruled Haile died of heat stroke.

Police say Haile was picked up at home Thursday morning in the van and had been left until around 4 p.m. Police have reason to believe she was left by a daycare center employee.

When she was found, she was unbuckled from her seat, but, for some reason, not removed from the van. It turns out Haile's two sisters were also in the van at the time, but they got out while Haile was left behind.

Officials say the driver of the van began working for the center in mid July and was only on the job for a few weeks.

Haile's mother, Nelda Lester, wants to know why the center never called her when they realized what happened.

She says, "They didn't call me, and I didn't talk to them yet, no one called me from the school. It's very hard because I can't believe they left her in the car and I'm just imagining over and over what she was doing so that's something I'm trying to forget right now."

At this moment, Delray Beach Police and State Attorney's office are investigating to determine whether anyone will be charged.

Katie's Kids Learning Center voluntarily closed Friday at the request of the Health Department. Parents who dropped off their children Friday morning were called in to pick them up. The center will be closed Monday.

Police say Haile was picked up at home Thursday morning in the van and had been left until around 4 p.m. Police have reason to believe she was left by a daycare center employee.

She was one of five children in her family.

Katie's Kids Learning Center is a licensed daycare center operating two of their four facilities within Delray. It's located on the 100 block of SW 10th Avenue.

The Department of Health, who overseas daycares, says they opened at that location under the name less than a year ago. Inspection reports from the department showed no serious violations in the past. They were completely in compliance at their last reinspection April 9.

Delray Beach police detectives are working this case with DCF, Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office and Medical Examiner's office.
