BOYNTON BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Hundreds of people in Boynton Beach may soon lose their only source of transportation.
The Community Redevelopment Agency's trolley is slated to be eliminated from the budget next month.
The CRA wants to slash the program to save $438,000. The trolley was created in 2005 and travels from the Marina to City Hall, through Boynton's eastern neighborhoods up to Gateway and west past I-95 to Tri-Rail.
It's estimated about 470 people ride the trolley everyday to work, to school, to the grocery, etc. That's about 10,000 riders every month.
But come October, trolley riders may have to find another way to get around if the budget is approved.
Folks who depend on the trolley say that's not fair.
Riders have a chance to protest the proposed cuts at the CRA's monthly meeting Wednesday night. Two public hearings will also be held next month before the budget is finalized.
