Man injured after Ft. Pierce boat fire

Ft. PIERCE, FL (WFLX)--- One person is recovering after an offshore boat fire blew the victim 6 feet in the air and into the water.

Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Jeremiah Jacobs says they responded around 8:45am Saturday to a boat fully engulfed in flames off the Ft. Pierce Inlet.

Reports say the owner of the vessel was fixing a pump when it ignited. That's when the explosion occured sending him into the water. The boat operator jumped in to save him.

Another boat nearby grabbed the two people and a Coast Guard Vessel transferred the owner to EMS. The owner was later moved to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Orlando for possible 2nd or 3rd degree burns. The boat operator was not injured.
