Obama at new low for handling economy

Posted by Paige Bresky --email

WASHINGTON, DC (AP)--- A new poll is giving President Barack Obama his worst marks yet for his handling of the economy.

The Associated Press-GfK survey finds 61 percent of respondents saying the economy has gotten worse since Obama took office and only 41 percent approve of how he's handling it.

Still, three-quarters says it's unrealistic to expect improvements in the first 18 months of the president's term.

The same poll finds that an overwhelming majority of Americans now describe the nation's financial outlook as poor. If this sour outlook lasts until the November elections, frustrated voters could take it out on the party in power, which means Obama's Democrats.

The president's overall approval rating remains at 49 percent.
