PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (WFLX) - The 18-year-old son of Port St. Lucie's mayor was arrested for allegedly providing alcohol to a minor.

Erik Christensen, a high school track star and son of Mayor Pat Christensen, was booked Friday night; however, Port St. Lucie police aren't providing a lot of details into what led up to his arrest.

Pat Christensen has served one term as mayor, but she's been on the city council for more than a decade. Despite her long career in local politics, she isn't running for re-election.

According to her biography on the city's Web site, back in 1990, she was the youngest person to hold office in the city's history. She also boasts about being instrumental in breaking the city's ties with General Development.

Erik attended classes at St Lucie West Centennial High School. Records show he bonded out of jail Saturday, but the circumstances around the incident that landed him behind bars in the first place remain a mystery.

A spokesperson for the city released this statement following the arrest of the mayor's son:

"Because he is not a city employee, we cannot comment on this. It is a police matter, and all your information needs to come from them."

We're hearing from police new details about this case should be available Monday.
