COCONUT CREEK, FL (WFLX) - He captured the hearts of teeny boppers in the 1970s with his gorgeous eyes, charming smile and talented voice. Now, in 2010, not much has changed except the screaming girls are now screaming women!
Singer David Cassidy, still acclaimed for his role on the Partridge Family, gave an intimate performance at the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek. "My life is great. I have no complaints," he told me after singing "I Think I Love You".
Cassidy, who calls Fort Lauderdale home, was the premiere guest at the blackjack debut party held at the Seminole Casino.
This was a long time coming for the Seminoles as the negotiations of the compact took 22 years.
CEO of Seminole Gaming and Chairmen of Hard Rock International Jim Allen has been part of those negations for almost 10 years. "I think this is tremendously exciting. Obviously, this facility opened up in 1989. It's been a tremendously successful building for the tribe. And by launching blackjack and other table games, this will really take the facility to the next level."
Seminole Casino has already expanded its staff by 128 with plans to hire more. "Pretty soon, we'll be breaking ground on expansion to the building, so there will be construction jobs. And, once we get done with the construction, obviously, there will be more jobs for the addition gaming activities, restaurants, bars, lounges and entertainment."
A tribal blessing was given. Then, the first hand of blackjack was dealt.
My hand didn't go over as well as my dealer ended up with 21. David Cassidy, one table over from me, did a bit better. "I just built it up from $25 to $450. And, as I have to leave, I put it all in, and she [dealer] had 21."
Maybe next time, we'll both have better luck!
