PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (WFLX)--- On Wednesday, St. Lucie County Sheriff's deputies discovered a methamphetamine lab at the home of a man arrested Tuesday for allegedly trying to buy chemicals to create a bomb.

After serving a search warrant at the home of 25-year-old Sergiy Matirniy in the 1300 block of Southeast Buckinham Terrace around 6 pm Wednesday night, deputies found a meth lab and evacuated five nearby residences.

A U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration team was called in by investigators around 9:30, determined there was no immediate danger and left the home after about an hour.

According to Sheriff Mascara, they returned Thursday morning to remove any dangerous chemicals and other items from the home.

"The search warrant at 1386 Buckingham Terrace, Port St. Lucie, resulted from the arrest around 5:30 p.m. Thursday of the home's owner, Sergiy Matirniy, who told swimming pool supply store employees he wanted to buy chemicals, possibly to make bombs, according to the employees," Sheriff Mascara said.

Matirniy faces charges for resisting an officer without violence after being arrested for attempting to buy chemicals at the Pool Spa Chemicals store in port St. Lucie to reportedly make a bomb.

"When the store's owner refused, Matirniy said he was a "homemade chemist" who began talking about "September 11th" and making bombs from acid.

When Matirniy left the store empty-handed, the store's owner called the police, sending a deputy to the store.

The deputy found Matirniy sitting in his car, the interior of which was loaded with wires, switch boxes and other strange items.

At first, Matirniy refused the deputy's order to get out of the car but eventually complied.

Deputies arrested him for resisting an officer without violence.

Based on the ramblings of the suspect inside the store and the materials found in the car, Sheriff's detectives believed the Buckingham Terrace home might contain explosives.

They obtained a search warrant to look for explosives at the home at around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
