DELRAY BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A woman, who was home when three small children nearly drowned in a home pool in December, was arrested Wednesday by the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office on a warrant for child neglect.

Twenty-four-year-old Renita Alfred was charged with three counts of felony child neglect.

Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Ted S. Booras ordered Alfred held in lieu of $50,000 bail Thursday.

According to Delray Beach police, Alfred and Sonia Termilinen were visiting the home of Manette Joseph in the 3000 block of Dorson Way on Dec. 29 and were in Joseph's living room when the toddlers nearly drowned.

The two believed they were in a bedroom; instead, the three children apparently had wandered off.

Alfred's children, 2-year-old Justin and 3-year-old Kensen, and their cousin, 3-year-old Janiya Joseph, found their way into their neighbor's fenced backyard and tumbled into the dirty pool.

Kensen and Janiya were released from Bethesda Memorial Hospital the next day.

Justin had a lengthy stay at St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach.

In court Thursday morning, Assistant Public Defender Mary Ann Duggan said she did not have an update on his condition.

Joseph said at the time she had known Termilinen, Janiya's mother, since she was 3 years old. Joseph's 16-year-old daughter, Esther Alfred, was in the living room with Termilinen and Renita Alfred at the time of the accident.
