FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (AP) - A 29-year-old South Florida woman says she stole someone's identity and rang up $20,000 because she needed to fix defective breast implants.
Shatarka Nuby also told a federal judge Thursday she had to furnish her new condo.
Nuby pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated identity theft and conspiracy to use unauthorized credit cards. She faces up to seven years in prison when she is sentenced November 16.
The investigation began after U.S. Postal inspectors discovered a mail theft that allowed Nuby to receive the victim's information.
She and an accomplice allegedly stole a college application containing numerous personal details and used it to open five credit cards in the victim's name.
