DELRAY BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A traffic crash occurred Wednesday morning at 10:34am just east of the intersection of Lake Ida Rd. and Congress Ave in Delray Beach.
A 2010 Audi convertible and a commercial delivery truck were involved in a crash.
As a result of this crash, the Audi, operated by a 73-year-old Boynton Beach woman spun out of control, drove over a sidewalk, down an embankment, and into a manmade retention pond.
Delray Beach Police and several Samaritans responded and entered the water to free the Audi's driver who was trapped in her car.
After a bit of a struggle due to the Audi driver's leg being pinned in the car, the victim was pulled out of the water.
Moments after the driver of the Audi was removed from the car, it sank to the bottom of the lake.
The driver was transported to Bethesda Hospital where she was evaluated, found to have no injuries, and was released.
Detectives are working on obtaining the identities of the driver and the Samaritans who saved her life.
