Fetus found on Lake Worth Beach

Posted by Paige Bresky --email

LAKE WORTH, FL (WFLX) - Investigators are still searching for the mother of a fetus found on the beach in Lake Worth.

The gruesome discovery was made just before 8 p.m. Monday night about 100 yards north of the Lake Worth Pier.

The female fetus is 20 weeks old, but investigators have no idea how it ended up on the beach.

Dr. Patricia Harding, an OB/GYN at St. Mary's Hospital says the discovery could have been the result of a botched abortion or a miscarriage where the mother didn't know what to do.

She says her biggest concern is for the mother who may need medical attention.

"She may end up with a perforated uterus she may have an infection she may have bled and

be anemic and need serious help," said Harding.

"If anyone knows that particular individual they should encourage her to come to nearest  hospital.  Come to St. Mary's, I'm waiting."

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's office wants to hear from anyone who might know anything about this fetus.  The number to call is (561) 688-4060.
