WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Several children are in the hospital and their father in jail after the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and Department of Children and Families descended on a home near West Palm Beach.

Six children, five boys and one girl, were removed from a home on Dogwood Road. The father, Miky Sinais, now faces aggravated child abuse charges.

Investigators say they found evidence that at least five of the kids were slapped with the flat side of a machete and had injuries on their backs and chests.

One neighbor, who did not want to be identified, says the house was empty until late last week. "Two days ago, the little kids started showing up, and they were probably like from 6 years old down, and they just took them away in an ambulance."

DCF issued this statement: "We are investigating this case with law enforcement and making sure the children are safe and any medical needs are taken care of. If the children cannot be safely placed with either parent, we'll look for relatives who are able to care for them temporarily."
