(WFLX) - Come to find out, there may be some health benefit from gossiping, but only if it's positive.

Researchers say people who gossip and share positive praise about someone may get a short-term lift to their own self-esteem.

One hundred and forty people were asked to either talk negatively or positively about a fictional person. Those who talked positively felt greater self-esteem than those who were told to speak negatively.

Therefore, Thumper's mom was right: "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all".
