STUART, FL (WFLX) - An 18-year-old girl is dead after a tragic accident in Stuart. Florida Highway Patrol has released name of victim, 18-year-old Maria Tomas.
Investigators say the car had just turned onto bridge road from Kanner Highway and was going east bound when the driver lost control and ended up crashing into trees.
According to authorities on scene, there were five teens in a car. Tomas was sitting in the back seat and officials think she wasn't wearing a seat belt.
Tomas's brother was in the car with her, as well as another brother-sister pair and a male friend. Two of the four teens are being air lifted to St. Mary's Hospital.
Authorities are telling us one of the teens is in critical condition. The other two of the four teens are at Martin Memorial with non-life threatening injuries.
Authorities are not releasing any of the student's names at this time because authorities cannot reach the parents of the girl who died.
All of the teens in the car go to South Fork High School and are all from Indiantown.
According Martin High School grief counselors are being made available for student and there are school administrators at the hospital right now.
The accident happened on Southwest Bridge Rd and Southwest Kanner Highway. The road is no longer blocked.
According to an FHP supervisor on duty, the call came in as "a car upside down in the trees".
A total of five teens were in the car. Maria was the only fatality.
The driver, 18-year-old Lleyni Perez, and passenger, 18-year-old Adriana Ramirez, were both treated and released at Martin Memorial Hospital South.
The driver's brother, 17-year-old Charlie Perez, was flown to St. Mary's with serious injuries, but is expected to survive.
The brother of the Maria, 16-year-old Miguel Tomas, was transported to St. Mary's and is expected to survive.
