Dangerous Lizard Found and Killed In Vero Beach

Posted by Paige Bresky --email

VERO BEACH, FL (WFLX) --- A dangerous lizard was spotted in the Dogs for Life Dog Park in the 1600 block of 12th Street.

When Vero Beach Animal Control arrived on the scene, they saw a 3 1/2 foot Nile Monitor Lizard climbing up a tree and shot and killed it with a dart gun.

The Nile Monitor Lizards are a very invasive species.

They eat just about anything and are known to eat up to 40 eggs in one sitting

They normally grow to about 6 feet.

Just this year Bruce Dangerfield of Vero Beach Animal Control has killed three Nile Monitor Lizards

He believes there is a chance they are mating in the park because all three lizards were about the same size, meaning they could have come from one nest.
