HOBE SOUND, FL (WFLX) - Detectives with the Martin County Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Division arrested 32-year-old Joel Alfredo Hernandez on Friday in connection with a marijuana grow house operation in the 13000 block of Southeast Ranchland Avenue in Hobe Sound.
At about 9:40 a.m., detectives executed a search warrant at the Ranchland Avenue address, conducting an investigation regarding the possible location of a stolen international shipping container.
Upon arrival, they located the shipping container (40' x 8') in the back corner of the two-acre rental property.
The odor of cannabis was apparent along with the sound of air conditioning units.
Inside the container, detectives recovered 20 marijuana plants, approximately 6' tall with an estimated street value of $70,000.
An intricate lighting and ventilation system had been established in the shipping container to enhance the growth of the plants and mask odors.
Power had been diverted from the main home (single-family residence) to the shipping container.
The shipping container had been reported stolen from a business in Opa-Locka, Florida, and Detectives believe it has been at the Ranchland Avenue location for approximately eight months.
The shipping container has been removed from the location as recovered stolen property. Hernandez has been charged with possession of cannabis over 20 grams and cultivation of cannabis and is being held at the Martin County Jail.
Bond amount is $10,000.
This is a continuing investigation.
