Fruit & Veggie Stickers

I'm Dr. David Vastola and Patrick and I we love reading the food section of the newspaper because we get great recipes. If you like to cook and you like good meals, you know that you have to have the right ingredients. So it really begins in the grocery store.

When it comes to our fruits and veggies we've been leaning more and more toward organic and non-genetically engineered food because we think it's safer. So therefore we look to the labels. Guess what? The food industry is lying on the labels! So how can we get around it? Let me show you.

Normally, when you look at a label like this if it's genetically engineered it will say GMO on there, but the industry is not doing it anymore: they're lying. So you have to rely on the PLU and it stands for the Product Look-Up number. So look carefully on this orange for example, there's the number 4012, that's the PLU, but there's nothing in front of it. That means it's normally grown. If there's an 8 in front of it that means it's genetically engineered. If there's a 9 in front of it that means it's organic. They can't get around it.

So when it comes to reading labels on your fruits and veggies, look to the numbers and look out for that snowman - because that means genetically engineered.

And I'm Dr. David Vastola and that's life.
