WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - They're still upset and disappointed, but Palm Beach County teachers overwhelmingly vote to pass their latest contract. Essentially, teachers are getting a one time $500 bonus. That breaks down to $337 after taxes -- or just $2 a work day.
This contract was for last school year. Now, negotiations can begin for the current school year.
The school district has already submitted its budget with no teacher raises; however, the Teachers Union president is vowing to fight hard for raises this year.
Superintendent Art Johnson released this statement:
"We are happy that the teachers supported this. We believe the majority of our teachers understand the impact of our economy on both the public and private sectors. We wish we could do more for our teachers."
