KY man claims caffeine made him kill wife

DAYTON, KY (WFLX) - A Kentucky man, accused of killing his wife, claims caffeine made him do it.

Police say 33-year-old Woody Smith used an extension cord to strangle his wife, Amanda, last May.

Smith's lawyer argues his client became temporarily insane after ingesting too many caffeinated sodas, energy drinks and diet pills.

"Caffeine intoxication" was used as a defense in at least one other case.

In 2009, a Washington State man was cleared of charges following a hit and run accident that injured two college students.
