Longevity List

I'm Dr. David Vastola and when Patrick and I shop we shop for several things. We look for things that are fresh, things that taste good and also things that are good for us. Now if you were going to take all these things and develop a longevity list, in other words foods that you ate that would prolong your life, what would they be? Let me show you that list.
It includes the following: whole grains which have both the soluble and insoluble fiber thereby preventing cancer and also preventing heart disease. The next is salmon with the omega 3 oils in it. It prevents heart disease and certain cancers such as breast and prostate. And yogurt with all that calcium in it which can prevent cancer and also osteoporosis. Nuts with the monounsaturated oils in them. Olive oil, that goes without saying. Tomatoes - lycopene - better cooked than raw. Bananas - antioxidants, fiber, vitamin C - same as oranges. Don't forget that chocolate, it's not last or least. Cabbage and other cruciferous vegetables prevent cancer and heart disease along with spinach - fiber, nutrients. Finally, strawberries.
It's worth reviewing one more time, your longevity list:
whole grain cereals, nuts, salmon, yogurt, olive oil, tomatoes, oranges, bananas, dark chocolate, cabbage, spinach and strawberries. If you have to shop you want something that tastes good, that's fresh, that's good for you and that will increase your age - that's the longevity list.

And I'm Dr. David Vastola and that's life.
