WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) --- A man called the police to report he had just shot a "friend of a friend" at his home in West Palm Beach on Friday night.
Officers responded and found Shawn Friend and an acquaintance, Tony Morrison infront of a house on the 200 block of Ashworth Street around 5:22 a.m.
Friend was bleeding from a head wound.
Friend, who was still armed with a handgun told officers he and Morrison had just returned to his house and upon entering his driveway was attacked by a male armed with a police baton.
Friend fought with the assailant briefly and then shot at him with the Glock he carried on his person.
Friend chased the attacker, who was identified as Jason Branham, into the back yard where he continued to shoot at Branham striking him at least once in the back.
Branham was pronounced dead by responding medics.
Morrison claimed he was a witness to the shooting.
On the same date, detectives of the Homicide Unit executed a search warrant at Friend's residence.
Large amounts of narcotics and firearms were located during the search.
During the investigation which followed, investigators determined Branham and Morrison had in fact responded to Friend's home with plans to rob him of drugs and money.
All the involved parties are acquaintances and Morrison had plans to move into Friend's home.
On Tuesday, an arrest warrant was issued for Morrison's arrest.
He was located by members of the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force in the City of Lake Worth on Wednesday.
Morrison was transported to WPB Police headquarters and interviewed.
When confronted with the evidence collected during the investigation, Morrison admitted to planning the robbery with Branham but, claimed he attempted to back out at the last minute.
Morrison has been charged with 2nd Degree Felony Murder and Attempted Armed Robbery with a Deadly Weapon.
The investigation will submitted to the SAO for their review regarding Friend's use of deadly force.
