Marijuana Grow House Raided, Two Arrested

OKEECHOBEE, FL (WFLX) --- On September 20, 2010, Detectives from the Okeechobee County Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant at a home in the 14000 block of Northwest 294 Street, in Okeechobee.

Twenty-eight growing marijuana plants were located in one room and thirty growing marijuana plants in another room.

Also located were ballasts, fans, PVC piping, AC chillers, reflective material, potting soil, electrical cord and plant pots.

All items used in the cultivation of marijuana.

Seventy-two growing marijuana plants with active root systems, florescent lights, reflective material, potting soil, electrical cord and plant pots.

All items used in the cultivation of marijuana.

The total number of growing marijuana plants was 130 with a total weight of 118 lbs.

The estimated value of the seizure was $473,200.

47-year-old Basilio Abreu was arrested and charged with: Cultivation of Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. His bond was set at $575,000.

4-year-old Maite Pino was also arrested and charged with: Cultivation of Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Her bond was set at $325,000.

Sheriff Paul C. May said of the raid, "The Drug Task Force is determined to rid our county of these grow houses. I think they are doing a very good job. Some of these criminals have recently been sentenced to 8 to 10 years prison for these crimes. I thank our judges and it won't take long to get this word around."
