PAHOKEE, FL (WFLX) --- The person who drowned in Lake Okeechobee Tuesday afternoon has been identified as 52-year-old Steve Green of Pahokee.

Deputies were disptached to the Pahokee Marina to assist a subject who had reportedly jumped into Lake Okeechobee at about 4:50 p.m. on September 21.

When deputies arrived, Green was submerged under water and could not be seen from the dock.

PBFR station 72 arrived and located the victim at 5:27 pm.

The victim was unresponsive and transported to Lakeside Medical Center in Belle Glade where he was later pronounced dead at 5:45 pm.

Two witnesses on scene stated that the victim attempted to reach a lid from a bucket that had fallen into the lake using a net from the dock.

The dock was approximately 10 feet above the water line.

The victim's net slipped from his hands so he jumped into the lake to retrieve it when he began to struggle.

The witness tried to pull the victim back up on the dock using the net but the victim failed to maintain a grip, on the net, and fell below the surface.
