WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - Former Palm Beach County Commissioner Warren Newell is now a free man after being released from prison Friday.
He's the first of three former Palm Beach County commissioners to be released from custody after a string of federal corruption convictions.
Federal prosecutors say he pocketed $500,000 from county projects. Other former commissioners still in federal custody include Tony Masilotti and Mary McCarty.
In August, former Commissioner Jeff Koons avoided jail time after pleading guilty to extortion charges.
