WPB installing muck monster lookout posts

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - It's a mystery that's intrigued many in our area for more than a year. Now, it could become a full-fledged tourist attraction. It's the muck monster.

It was first spotted moving beneath the surface of the water more than a year ago. Now, the city is drawing attention to it again -- just in time for good weather and tourist season.

The city of West Palm Beach actually held a news conference along the new downtown waterfront to talk about the muck monster.

"Thank you all for coming here this morning. We are here because there has been an apparent increased sighting of the muck monster in recent weeks," said West Palm Beach city official.

West Palm Beach raised the possibility just more than a year ago as the city worked on its waterfront re-development.

Last year, the city gave us a cryptic video of something moving through the Lake Worth Lagoon or intracoastal.

On Thursday, the city provided a sound recording.

An angler, who supposedly saw something moving through the water creating a wake, said, "I'm like, 'What fish, you know, can make a wake like that?' Ain't no damn fish can make a wake like that. I'm like, 'You're damn right'. It was freaky."

Whether or not you buy all the monster talk, what we know for sure is, in coming weeks, the city plans to install three seawall viewing stations with telescopes or binoculars for looking at monsters or whatever.

Keep in mind, all this is happening just as we get cooler weather and tourists start returning.
